In preparation for the release (in 21 days) here's an interesting little video clip. A panel of überfans moderated by MTV's Kurt Loder debate Harry Potter's fate in The Deathly Hallows. One panelmember suggests he could choose to die to save the world, just like Buffy. Is Harry the New Dead Buffy? LINK

Very interesting discussion. As one of those guys said, they're obsessed, and they've thought of a lot of things I never would have thought of. Of course, it's enjoyable to just read the books and find out what happens, but now I have food for thought.
I was especially intrigued by the argument that Harry might be a horcrux. It makes sense, the way they put it--the way Harry can read Voldemort's thoughts, the fact that Harry "sees" through Nagina's eyes and that Harry was able to open the Chamber of Secrets, which Ginny was able to do with the diary (Nagina and the diary being horcruxes).
Then there's the fact that Voldemort used significant deaths to make his horcruxes (horcruxi?). When he went to kill Harry, presumably he planned to make a horcrux, and when the spell went wrong, Harry was left with his scar--the killing curse is not supposed to leave any kind of mark.
As for Harry sacrificing himsefl a la Buffy, I just hate to think that Harry will die in the end. Maybe it will happen that way, but I hope not.

The first thought I had after reading HBP was that Harry's scar could be a horcrux. My friend keeps asking me if I think she's going to kill Harry. I get annoyed at her question and HP is one of the few things I read and post about at a high rate, at least before each book is published. I am always impressed by authors when they say they know where certain plots are going or how they will end. I do not have a feeling one way or another of what will happen to Harry, I'm actually really worried about Ron and Hermione. Sometimes I think authors (I always almost type aurors) just say they have a precise plot planned to make themselves sound better. But I think she did know how Harry's fate would play out from an early point in her books, maybe even from his "conception." So it's strange for me, I feel like I cannot personally speculate about it, cause it's already been set in ink.
Jeez I'm getting sad just thinking about it ending. I think I am more distressed that the series (and characters) will be ending, that whether Harry does. I adore him, but will gladly take him dying if the series will continue in some way. See I get to have it both ways, more HP 'verse from Rowling, with the hope that Harry may one day be reborn!

I hope Harry doesn't die. I agree with the guy in the above video who said that it would sure be a bummer to torture Harry through seven books, just to kill him off. I doesn't really make sense. I also agree that his death would make the idea of a Harry Potter themed theme-park a bit morbid. It would be like going to Disney World after finding out that Mickey died in a horrible glue trap related incident.

In our ideal world, Harry lives AND we get more stories.
Oh, and I'd love him to LIVE! I just don't know what I believe will happen. And it would be nice, if he could become The Boy Who Lived!, and actually get to do some living.

I saw that, but decided not to read it yet. Although I know it's not spoilerish, something about Stephen King and Harry Potter in the same sentence gives me the chills. Though I remember reading that King and some other author have publicly pleaded with JK not to kill Harry.

Amazon just charged my card. For nanosecond thought my card was stolen, cause I didn't buy anything from Amazon...this week.
Then got mega excited when I realized they were charging me for the BOOK!

The final installment of the series has been leaked onto BitTorrent!!!
Rather than procuring a copy illegally, I'm going to wait until Saturday.

Ooops! I just reaaallllly hope that Amazon gets it to me in the late morning! I am undergoing a news/internet embargo soon, and plan to hunker down in my home on Saturday...and probably Sunday too!!!
Online Retailer Ships 'Deathly Hallows' Too Early July 18, 2007 By Kimberly Maul
Scholastic has announced that a distributor has released copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows before the official July 21 date, despite the company's best efforts to keep the book under embargo. The Potter breach happened when distributor Levy Home Entertainment and online retailer, and Levy customer, DeepDiscount.com shipped copies of the book through the mail that some customers received as early as Tuesday, July 17.
"We are taking immediate legal action against DeepDiscount.com and Levy Home Entertainment," Scholastic said in its statement. "We are also making a direct appeal to the Harry Potter fans who bought their books from DeepDiscount.com and may receive copies early, requesting that they keep the packages hidden until midnight on July 21."
According to Scholastic, the number of copies sent out was one one-hundredth of one percent of the total copies to go on sale on Saturday. The company expressed its gratitude to other retailers and distributors for keeping the embargo on the book and asked everyone to preserve the fun of the "Harry Potter" release until the 21st. "The fans themselves have made it abundantly clear that they are looking forward to going to the midnight parties, receiving their very own copy of the book and finally getting to read the book they have so anxiously awaited," Scholastic said.
No official word yet if this specific breach led to photographs of pages from the book showing up on the Internet.
If I got my copy early, I wished it was Amazon, I'd be reading it! I wouldn't put it on the internet or shoot my mouth off about it. But I find it funny that they are asking people (I think) to hide them until the 21st. I was reading about the security that Amazon has on it's books, sounds like it be easier to apparate into Hogwarts!

What's the policy on Spoiler posts? Since this thread is named Deathly Hallows, once Saturday arrives can we post without the spoiler tags, maybe put a spoiler warning on the thread title?

I added "Possible Spoilers" to the title, but I would still use spoiler tags around spoilers for a little bit.

I got mine this morning at the local Wal-Mart. Looked all over the store for it, couldn't find it. I finally had to ask someone. She said that I had to go to the service desk and ask for it. Apparently they didn't feel the need to put up a display.
