You signed up for Planet TV and haven't checked it in a while. Now the board looks all different and you can't log in. What is up with that?
Long story short-
Old board go "boom". This new board.
Long story long and geeky-
The old board was based on a modified phpbb2 code that allowed for sub forums (boards within boards like I have in "The Whedonverse"). Since phpbb2 doesn't have the built in ability to have sub forums, I had to use a special modified code. This "mod" worked well, the only problem is that it made it almost impossible to further modify the board. Many of the new features I wanted to add weren't compatible with the sub forum mod. So, I did a lot of research and found another sub forum mod that was supposed to be compatible with other mods. I backed-up my database including all the post and memberlist, deleted the board directory, and reinstalled phpbb2 and the new mod. Unfortunately, I didn't take into account that since the database was formatted to fit the old code, the new source code wouldn't be able read it. So instead of improving the board, I killed it. Yes, bad me. Major self flogging ensued.
Since I now was going to have to start from scratch anyway, I decided to come back to ProBoards. While ProBoards are also a bit limiting, which is one of the reasons I moved the old board to my own web space and switched to phpbb, they are still the easiest way to get the main features I'm looking for. I've also learned a bit more about ProBoard modding since my last encounter with them so I'm hoping to get this board exactly how I want it. The downside is that you do have to re-register but the bonus is that I'm not responsible for updating ANY of the source code so we should be able to avoid a repeat of the whole "boom" issue.
I thanks for returning and keep posting!
