Last year J.K. Rowling put together The Tales Of Beedle The Bard and made a couple of copies that were auctioned off for charity. Amazon got one of them and now you can pre-order your own copy! They're offering two versions, the standard edition for about $10-12.00 and the Collectors Edition for $100.00. I pre-ordered the Collectors Edition because there's only 100,000 copies and it just looks so damn cool. The added illustrations help too. Both versions have notes on the stories and historical background supplied by Albus Dumbledore from documents released after his death. Considering how important this book was to the plot of the Deathly Hallows I think any fan of the series would want a copy. I have a copy of the Collectors Edition pre-ordered for myself, I think it'll look great on the new shelves I'm going to be putting up in my place. Whichever copy you want you should pre-order now so you can get it and since it's coming out in time for x-mas (an oddly named holiday since afaik it has nothing to do with mutants) you would have the perfect gift for anyone who loves the HP books.

It's not the collector's edition, but I picked up a copy of it today. Read the whole thing in a little under an hour. It's a pretty quick read. Interesting little book. The "fairy tales" are very much like traditional ones- the good are rewarded, the bad punished- but with a "wizard" spin to them. Each one has a commentary, "written" by Albus Dumbledore, which is insightful and often humorous. I especially liked the story of "The Warlock's Hairy Heart" which hearkens back to the original Grimm's Fairy Tales which were, at times, quite gruesome. All in all, it's a nice little book to add to your HP collection.

Mine arrived yesterday, too, but I haven't read it yet. Actually, I got 3 copies -- 2 are wrapped and under the tree even as we speak (fortunately, mousehouse doesn't check this board very often! -- the other is for my daughter, Hollypeno). I'll probably read the 3rd, then donate it to our local library (since mousehouse will have a copy after Dec. 25).
