PRE-ORDER issue #5 now! Buffy's new position as leader and figurehead of the world's five hundred most powerful women has made her a bigger target than ever before. "The Chain" tells the story of one of the decoy "Buffy" Slayers, a tale personally important to series creator Joss Whedon. Guest artist Paul Lee (Conan, Tales of the Vampires) pencils the first standalone issue of Season Eight.

Issue #6 is out today. It's the first issue of the Faith story arc. Great start to this newest storyline- As the story begins, Faith, now a resident of Cleveland (home of Hellmouth 2.0), is on patrol. She gets a call from her ex, Robin Wood, to go check out the home of a single mom who was turned into a vamp.
Faith arrives at the house prepared to round up the kids but instead finds the six children have been vamped. She dispatches them but the experience leaves her drained.
She arrives back at her apartment to find Giles waiting for her, in what appears to be a Yellow Submarine jumper. Apparently Faith has attempted to buy a fake passport and Giles has caught wind of it. He offers her "early retirement and a pension plan" if she'll do one last big job- kill a Slayer, a Slayer who will bring about the apocalypse unless dealt with.
The Slayer in question is the Lady Genevieve Savidge, one of the wealthiest heiresses in the British Isles. Under the tutelage of the powerful Irish warlock, Roden, she has been hunting Slayers for sport. Genevieve expects to get something out of this arrangement but Roden says she'll have to be patient. He holds a book with the "Twilight" symbol on it.
Meanwhile, Giles tells Faith that Genevieve's estate is "mystically defended". The only way to kill her is to "get close to her through subterfuge and cunning" (insert funny/raunchy lesbian joke here). Giles is going to be Higgins to her Doolittle and teach her how to be a lady in time for her to attend Genevieve's 19th birthday party.
Cut to sweaty shirtless Xander working out alone, or so he thinks. Buffy enters, catching him taunting the punching bag. He explains that Renee wanted to "spar" with him. Buffy is worried about the whole "twilight" issue and what it has to do with the government being against the Slayers. She's also having dreams of a lion-like creature with a snake's tongue and a fiery mane that says, "The queen is dead. Long live the queen."
Cut again to Giles and Faith, apparently weeks later. They are in London (Dr. Who fans will get a kick out of the cameo by The Doctor and Rose). Faith can now speak with a "nearly passable" British accent and she looks elegant in her green formal gown.
Looking forward to next month's issue.

I ignored the Buffy\Angel comics when they came out for financial reasons and I grew dissatisfied with comics in general (Marvel's Civil War and Spider Man retcon come to mind) so I put it out of my mind until I found myself in a Borders bored and in front of the comic rack. Sitting there in front of me was Buffy Season 8 Issue 16 with Fray the Vampire Slayer from the future. I read Fray and liked it so I decided to check it out.
I am now subscribed to Buffy Season 8 and Angel After the Fall. I have also put all the available back issues on my wishlist but I'll probably hit the nearby comic book stores (2 in walking distance when I'm around during their business hours which is rare) and get what I can there.

I'm so far behind on both Buffy S8 and Angel AtF. Not that I don't have them, since I subscribe to them. I just haven't read them. I'm going to get caught up soon.
